Wicca reveres the Goddess and the God as the life force in all beings and things. Some visualize the Goddess as a physical being, while others choose to imagine her as a glowing light that emits life. This is often the case with the God as well.

Some pagan names for the goddess include Diana, Isis, and Selena...among hundreds of others. She lights the night and changes with the phases of the moon. In the waxing moon, she is the pure young maiden. During the full moon she is the loving and tender mother. The waxing moon is symbolic of the wise old crone.

Traditional Wiccan lore tells of the Goddess giving birth to a son, and with him is born the green life of spring. The God is known as Pan, Osiris, Odin, The Green Man, and also many more. He presides over the beasts and vegetation. He lights the day as the sun, and allows the fruits to flourish and the animals to thrive. As he grows into a young man, he becomes lover to the Goddess. (This is not to say that Wiccans support incest, but instead that we are all united and related, and each male and female sy mbolize the God and Goddess.)

As autumn approaches, the God willfully sacrifices himself in the form of the harvested crops and the hunted animals. The Goddess mourns his passing but realizes that it must be done so that life may continue to flourish; she knows that he will return to her again in the spring.

Essentially, both the Goddess and the God are alive in all of us, regardless of our gender. All things are tied to the force of the Goddess and God, the All, The Akasha. Within each and every thing there lies a common thread, and with this understanding develops a feeling of oneness and respect for the universe and all within it.

This is just a brief overview of Wiccan theology. If you would like to learn more, I have provided links to helpful books and websites. May the Goddess guide you to knowledge hidden within and may the God provide to you the tools necessary to uncover it.

Virgin Artemis, mysterious and triune,

Who bearest a bow and a quiver of splendour

With elegant arrows made of glittering silver,

Sister of Apollo and daughter of Zeus,

Most mysterious woman, mystic and abstruse,

Who art Selene above waxing in the sky,

Thou triple Goddess of the ageless Moon,

Lady of the nocturnal and mystick swoon,

Virgin Artemis of lunar delight,

We invoke thee to enrich our souls with thy power,

Come, O come, in this, thine holy hour!
An Invocation To Ogma The following invocation of Ogma was used in the main ritual at last year's Mean Earrach in New York. It opens a very nice portal to facilitate communication with the Gods. "Ogma! Bearer of knowledge.

Ogma! Who brought the sacred script to our people.

Ogma! Keeper of the gates between the worlds.

Hear us!

Open the gate to the other world

That we may commune with our ancestors,

The spirits of this place,

And the Gods.

Open the gate.

Open the door.

Open the way.

So mote it be."
Closing the portal:"Ogma!

We thank you for giving us access to the other world,

Our work is done.

Close the gate that we may leave this place in peace.

Blessed Be." (or alternatively 'So mote it be')
INVOCATION TO PEACE NOTE: You should design your ritual according to you own thoughts. If you are trying for peace in your family, you would use red or pink candles, the earth - green candles, etc. This is up to your own discretion) "From out of the dark and into the light

A circular "mark"; a candle burns bright.

I look toweards the sky...my "song" that I sing

Spirits soar high and gifts do I bring.

I offer my all! My mind, I then clear

Harken my call! I feel you are near!

Candle burns higher; my spirits set free!

Hotter than fire, this magick will be!

Let magick come round, from under the ground,

To form with my sound and the, to be bound!

Around me I feel the magick so real,

Before you I kneel.. the spell I now seal!

Let all hatred CEASE! And let there be PEACE!

These words that I say, with magick AWAY!

This spell that I send is now at an end.

Let the magick I've laid, go forth and not fade!!"

You can find a correspondence in the back of most Witchcraft books, so that you can match your intent with the Deity you invoke.

Or perhaps you have a Patron Deity that you call regularly.

The next thing you need to do is to research that God or Goddess.

Most correspondence tables don't give enough information to invoke a mouse.

Pull out your mythology books, go to the library, search the Web.

Look for stories and myths about the God or Goddess you plan to invoke.

Do a meditation/visualization.

Ask to meet the God/dess you plan on invoking.

Talk to Her/Him, watch Her/Him.

Sit down with a piece of paper and a pen and free associate about that Deity.

List adjectives that describe Him/Her, list objects or events that pop into your mind.

When you're done, use the free association to compose a short poem (rhyming or not).

Don't worry about how "good" it is.

The point isn't to win an award for the poetry.

Read it out loud to see how it sounds to your ears.

Does it evoke the God/dess in your mind?

Does it bring back the vision you had of Him/Her in your meditation?

Work on it until it does.

Now do the same with the other Deity (it's a good idea to stick to the same pantheon in a ritual, at least at first).

And there you have an invocation that will work for you in any ritual you perform.
